This year’s theme acknowledges the need for government and industry leaders to effectively manage change, employing creative and innovative solutions to provide government passengers with world class travel.

The symposium assembles decision makers from the federal government including DTMO and GSA, senior travel officials from government agencies, government and military passenger travel managers, members of NDTA’s Government Passenger Travel Advisory Council (GPTAC) and its committees, commercial and passenger travel industry, and academia.

Our agenda offers a wide variety of interactive government & industry meetings and professional development sessions, keynote speakers, moderated panels, fireside chats, EXPO Hall and networking sessions, a Travel Academy including twenty classes spread over five sessions, continuing education unit credits and young leader events.  This is a unique opportunity to connect with the government passenger travel team.  Come join us!

Col. Wes Adams, USAF: "Navigating Contested Logistics in a Changing Era"

We invite you to join the NDTA DC Chapter on

Thursday, September 26th

to welcome

COLONEL BERT W. "WES" ADAMS, USAF

Col. Adams will join the NDTA DC Chapter to present an insightful preview of his forthcoming White Paper, available this October. The body of work delves into the evolving landscape of contested logistics. For decades, the Joint Force has benefited from freedom of maneuver and relative ease in sustainment, with the capability to deliver resources to virtually any location. However, this paradigm is shifting dramatically. We are now facing multiple challenges and heightened geopolitical rivalry that significantly impairs our power projection capabilities. This shift characterizes the contested logistics environment we are entering.

As China presents an enduring challenge and Russia poses an acute threat, we find ourselves in a transformative era where operations across all domains are increasingly contested. Col. Adams’ presentation will explore these critical changes and their implications for our logistics strategies.

***

BIO: Colonel Wes Adams serves as the Military Deputy to the Plans Executive Directorate (J35) at Headquarters Defense Logistics Agency, Fort Belvoir, Virginia. In this role, he supports the vision, strategy, planning, exercises, strategic business, and mission assurance for the nation's Combat Logistics Support Agency. Previously, Col. Adams was the Division Chief for Strategic Plans and Futures (J355).

Commissioned in 1999 as a Distinguished Graduate of the Air Force ROTC program at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, Col. Adams has held a wide range of leadership roles, including command of a wing, a group, and two squadrons. An Aircraft Maintenance Officer by trade, he has extensive experience at the field, depot, and headquarters levels in positions such as flightline sortie production, operations officer, executive officer, and speechwriter to the United States Air Force Chief of Staff.

Col. Adams has also been a Service Chiefs Fellow at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and a National Defense Fellow at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. During his four-year tenure at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (2005-2009), he commanded a group and two squadrons, further contributing to his extensive military career. As the former Joint Base and 87th Air Base Wing Commander, he provided installation support to more than 88 mission partners at the Department of Defense’s only tri-service joint base.

RADM James Watson (Ret.), and Distinguished Maritime Leader & co-author of ZERO POINT FOUR: How U.S. Leadership in Maritime Will Secure America’s Future

Rear Admiral James Watson (USCG Ret.)

Former Senior Vice President of the American Bureau of Shipping Global Government Services, a distinguished leader in maritime safety and engineering, and co-author of ZERO POINT FOUR: How U.S. Leadership in Maritime Will Secure America’s Future

“After World War II over half the world’s ocean-going commercial ships flew the U.S. flag. Today, it is less than 0.4%”

-ZERO POINT FOUR

RADM Watson (USCG Ret.) will join us to discuss how the recent disruptions in global supply chains, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, have highlighted the pressing need to evaluate the implications of maritime security and the U.S. dependency on international trade. Zero Point Four offers a compelling framework for assessing this reliance, providing invaluable insights for NDTA readers grappling with the intricacies of maritime security.

RADM Watson brings a wealth of expertise to the discussion, drawing from his distinguished career in the maritime industry's public and private sectors. His leadership roles, including Senior Vice President of the American Bureau of Shipping Global Government Services and key regulatory positions such as Director of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement at the US Department of the Interior and Director of Prevention Policy for Marine Safety, Security, and Stewardship at the US Coast Guard, underscore his depth of knowledge and experience. With academic credentials encompassing a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering from USCGA and advanced degrees in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, and Strategic Studies, RADM Watson offers a robust understanding of maritime operations and regulatory frameworks.
